Free Music Every Week from the BBC

If you’re willing to sign up for a free account and receive some email, the website of BBC’s music magazine will allow you to download a selected free track from a highlighted recording each week.  It’s a great way to discover new music and recordings.  The website also presents reviews, articles, and artist interviews, as well as podcasts on recent and upcoming releases.  There are entertaining articles on famous composers and more.

A recent download was a piece by Janáček performed by pianist Stephen Hough.  Other downloads have included a French Christmas motet, Biber’s Rosary Sonata 3, a Bach harpsichord concerto, and a Brahms violin sonata.  Each download is available only for that week.

You can also download for free an album of high-resolution tracks from Linn Records at www.linn.co.uk/album (use the code MUSIC15).  They will occasionally make bonus tracks available as well.  This is an audiophile’s treat, with a variety of high-resolution formats available.
